Rethinking $TIBBIR While I was thinking about $TIBBIR, it suddenly hit me. What if we have been looking at it the wrong way? We have been trying to measure it by market cap, comparing it to other coins, benchmarking it against Ribbit’s biggest wins. But what if $TIBBIR is more than that? More than just another token. Micky Malka and Ribbit Capital do not measure success through market cap, and maybe we should do the same. To them, success is measured by how many lives an investment impacts. And if that is the lens we use, $TIBBIR starts to look very different. (Ref: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqcmfYX8tfk&t=852s - 36.40 minutes: "instead of thinking performance as an ultimate index, I think that's an output, not an input. The input is the number of people you can impact in the world with better financial product. And if you can do that at scale, the output takes care of itself. Right now we touch through our portfolio and the companies that were very involved over 700m people..) That perspective is not new. In fact, it has been Ribbit’s mantra since their very first day, “Because the World Needs More Financial Innovation. And Less Financial Engineering.” Impact over recognition This mindset isn’t just theory. It’s shaped how Ribbit operates from the beginning. Micky has been on the Forbes Midas List three years in a row, consistently ranked number two from 2022 to 2024. But to him, that is just a vanity metric. Ribbit does not chase media. They chase meaning. They did not grow from $100M to $12B by seeking recognition. They grew by backing what has impact, impact that matters. The lives their products have changed And when you look at the products they have backed, that impact is hard to ignore. Robinhood did not just build a trading app, it empowered a generation to invest. Coinbase did not just go public, it onboarded the world into crypto. Nubank did not just raise money, it changed how Latin America banks. Affirm did not just offer credit, it redefined trust in online payments. Ribbit did not just fund companies, they funded behavior shifts. A few examples worth mapping out You don’t have to take my word for it. The companies themselves tell the story. This is not just theory. Below are just some of the products Ribbit backed, products that changed how people interact with finance, identity, and the internet itself. Not just big, but category defining But some of these companies did more than shift behavior. They opened entirely new doors. Robinhood forced an industry wide shift toward zero fee investing. Coinbase normalized crypto for the average user. Nubank proved that mobile first banking could thrive in emerging markets. These were not just successful startups. They were first of their kind. Their existence made it possible for others to build. In my opinion, the success of that kind of pioneering should not be overlooked. Why $TIBBIR’s architecture stands out And that brings us back to $TIBBIR. Because understanding what came before helps explain what might be unfolding now. This is the context $TIBBIR is emerging from. And that is what makes its design worth paying attention to. Unlike many products in crypto that launch first and figure out their purpose later, $TIBBIR looks like the opposite. It was not a random idea pushed to the market hoping to raise funds. It was likely part of a larger plan, one that has been in motion since maybe as early as 2020. Infrastructure first. Execution next. With both in place, pricing takes care of itself. As it was noted in Micky’s recent podcast just last year, “Focus on the input and the output will take care of itself.” Ref: https://podcastnotes.org/investors-field-guide/micky-malka-building-ribbit-invest-like-the-best-with-patrick-oshaughnessy-ep-400/ Beyond infrastructure: securing the next financial layer That same thinking shows up in the stack Ribbit has been quietly assembling behind the scenes. While that quiet build was happening, Ribbit was also evolving. Their more recent investments in Fireblocks, Blockaid, and Chainalysis point to something bigger. This is not just infrastructure. It is programmable. Secure. Intelligent. It is the kind of stack that could support an entirely new kind of financial product. One that runs securely onchain by default. $TIBBIR might be the first native product built to live on that stack. AI informed. Crypto native and fintech compliant. Not another niche crypto but built for the masses If that’s true, then the question becomes who is it for. Ribbit has never built niche tools. They build for mass behavior. The kinds of products that shift how people interact with money. Which is why it is reasonable to believe $TIBBIR is not aiming for a small slice of crypto. Judging by Ribbit’s past investments, they are likely aiming at the mainstream. How Ribbit plays the long game That kind of positioning does not come from guessing. It comes from pattern recognition. Ribbit has always moved early. Placed foundational bets. Built before trends became obvious. And when you look at their portfolio, it does not feel scattered. It feels like a system taking shape. The stack Ribbit quietly built And when you look closely at that system, the pieces start to organize themselves. That system becomes even clearer when you group the roles their investments serve. Distribution. Transaction infrastructure. Onchain infrastructure. Compliance and security. These are the pillars they have spent over a decade assembling. And now, possibly, $TIBBIR. Why this moment matters Many of us watched the last decade of fintech unfold from the sidelines. We saw how products like Robinhood, Coinbase, and Nubank transformed access to money but we were not part of building it. That moment has passed. But this one has not. $TIBBIR may not look like much yet. But neither did those early players in their beginning. The difference now is that we have a chance to be a part of it. This might be the start of fintech’s next era and this time, we are not just watching. We are here I highly recommend checking out this video if you're interested in learning more about @mickymalka and @RibbitCapital's approach
