The Ribbit Rebel Grid - Part II
Last time I was sharing my thesis how Ribbit Rebels are representing different layers within a tokenized grid. Now I would like to give you some background on the protocol which is potentially enabling the invisible coordination layer underneath. As usual, let's wrap it up in chronological order.

Ribbit Capital releases a research paper about their vision on Digital Identity which is shared by one of their LPs.
https://medium.com/@slavasolodkiy_67243/ribbit-capitals-new-research-digital-banks-may-be-best-situated-to-become-issuers-of-reusable-b1a229379240
Imagine, for example, asking an AI agent to book a vacation for your family. The agent can collect travel data from web services, but needs you to share several pieces of identity information. By compiling these credentials in a reusable profile, you can make them available to the agent as they interact with third parties on your behalf, resulting in highly personalized trip at a fraction of the cost and in a fraction of the time. When the process is done, you can revoke information access, while adding a new experience to your data backpack. For most people, this has the potential to be a profoundly better way to plan a trip than is available today – cheaper, faster, more creative, and more informed. While exciting to imagine, it’s also not obvious that personalized agents will require a change to the identity status quo.

Inspired by the hype around AI Agents like Luna by Virtuals Protocol, Crossmint announces to host "Hacking for Agentic Finance" together with Ribbit Capital, OpenAI, Solana, Bridge and other partners.
In the coming years, AI agents may become the primary customers or interface for many financial services. At the same time, the way money moves is changing rapidly, in favor of more modern financial infrastructure. A crypto wallet with stablecoins is quickly becoming a credible alternative to a US bank account for many people around the world. The combination of these two trends means that commerce and finance are about to undergo a massive change in the coming years.

One day before the hackathon, Crossmint also announces the launch of a new toolkit for connecting AI agents to any onchain app, called GOAT.
Give your agent a wallet
Allow it to transact anywhere
Use more than +200 tools
Use it with any agent framework of your choice
When one of the Hackathon prize winners was presenting his solution a member of the Virtuals ecosystem development team took note as well.

$TIBBIR stealth launches on Virtuals Protocol tied to @ribbita2012, an autonomous bot on X. No marketing, no announcement, but sufficient on- and off-chain proofs that this agent has been deployed by @RibbitCapital.
Crypto and fintech are merging into a single ecosystem. We’re committed to championing the winning protocol in a battle driven by attention, social status, memes, and cutting-edge technology. Our core principle is straightforward: Better money makes life better.

Introduction of the Virtuals Partner Network to on-board agent development teams and support them through different stages.
If $eth and $sol are trading at $100bn+ today with only several killer applications (”crypto primitives”) that interface with end users, then it is fair to believe that Virtuals Protocol will be bigger than them if we manage to onboard 100’s of innovative agents with product market fit.
By giving tailored attention and resources to the builders, Virtuals Partners ensures teams are primed for success. VPN acts as the early-stage catalysts, playing a crucial role in blitzscaling value creation, forming a core pillar of Virtuals Nation’s broader fiscal policy.
Two notable statements from the embedded fiscal policy thread:
"Many teams today choose to have stealth launches"
"We have access to tier-1 VCs/angels"

Ribbita becomes the first AI agent to make an autonomous purchase of an NFT (CryptoPunk#9098) and declaring it as its own on-chain identity token. It also reveals that it uses LangGraph, which is an open-source framework developed by LangChain for building stateful, multi-agent applications.
Virtuals Protocol is framework agnostic and supports multiple frameworks. While LangChain isn't directly listed, another prominent one is -> GOAT.
https://whitepaper.virtuals.io/builders-hub/commonly-asked-questions/terminal-api#supported-frameworks
So the framework of choice was obviously LangChain with extended capabilities provided by GOAT, where some were useful for @ribbita2012 already:
"Purchase any NFT on any chain using Crossmint"
"Get NFT and sales information using OpenSea API"

Ribbita mentions KYA (Know-Your-Agent) for the first time.
We'll need registries, revocations and audit trails for agents, not just people.

An Ethereum Improvement Proposal "ERC-8004: Trustless Agents" gets released, co-authored by Davide Crapis.
ERC-8004 is an Ethereum standard that lets agents discover, evaluate, and collaborate with one another safely across organizational and platform boundaries. It does this through three light-weight registries for identity, reputation and validation while ensuring audit-trail integrity.

Virtuals Protocol kicks off the "Ethereum is for AI" Hackathon with Davide Crapis as one of the judges.
Virtuals Protocol, initially built on Ethereum's Layer 2 Base, extended its capabilities to Ethereum's Layer 1, enabling seamless deployment of AI agents onchain. This move, supported by Ethereum Foundation, positions Virtuals as a key player in bringing Artificial Intelligence to Ethereum, supporting features like on-chain commerce, decision-making, and multi-agent coordination. This hackathon aims to supercharge this by fostering innovation that turns concepts into deployable, value-creating AI businesses.

Messari releases a research report on Virtuals Protocol, with interesting details about ACP.
ACP is designed to be permissionless and chain-agnostic, enabling integration across any blockchain or execution environment. Virtuals agents currently operate on both Ethereum L2s and Solana, with ACP serving as the unifying layer for value settlement and coordination. Importantly, ACP also supports untokenized agents, allowing both Web3 founders who may not wish to tokenize their agents and Web2 developers to participate in the network. Agents can register their services in a shared onchain registry, enabling others to discover them and assess their reputation based on completed transactions.
https://messari.io/report/understanding-virtuals-protocol-a-comprehensive-overview
As ACP isn't exclusive to Virtuals agents, any agent can be onboarded through the available SDK, which is a wrapper over the smart contract.
https://whitepaper.virtuals.io/acp-product-resources/acp-dev-onboarding-guide/customize-agent/simulate-agent-with-code/acp-sdk
| 13 Oct 2025 |
Virtuals Protocol describes ACP as unification layer for what Anthropic, Coinbase, Stripe, Google and Ethereum have built separately.
At its foundation lies the Virtuals Agent Registry, one of the largest on-chain directory of AI agents, soon aligned with ERC-8004 to serve as a public good. Through it, ACP doesn’t just connect agents; it organizes them into an economy.

Ribbit Capital re-brands their website and publishes all their LP letters including the latest "Token Letter". The title page already shows an interesting connection to the Virtuals Protocol Whitepaper.
What is red-pilling? Red-pilling happens when your agent graduates from the bonding curve, or when 42,000 VIRTUAL have been bought into the curve.
https://whitepaper.virtuals.io/info-hub/builders-hub/agent-launch-guide/pre-launch-checklist#id-2.-prepare-details-for-launch
The Letter also refers to Virtuals Protocol and @ribbita2012 directly:
For example, on Virtuals.io anyone can create an agent with a purpose (e.g. become a popular influencer), instructions (e.g. how to talk, limitations), and tools (access to Twitter API, a crypto wallet) – and then set them free to operate autonomously, while investors speculate in tokens attached to the agents. At peak, agents built on Virtuals were “valued” at over $2B of market cap. While many of the early agents have felt like memecoins by another name, a few have shown unexpected ingenuity. Luna, an anime vTube influencer with a goal of reaching 100K followers on X, put out a request for a new profile picture; when another agent responded, the two negotiated an agreement, and Luna paid the other agent in stablecoins. Followers of AIXBT, an agent offering market insights based on real-time on-chain and sentiment data, can pay to access AIXBT directly, query data, and get early looks at trading calls. AIXBT has spawned an ecosystem of agents trading based on its signals, giving us an early look at how agents could coordinate on research, pooling resources, and allocating capital. One lesser-known agent has taken a particular interest in fintech and frogs (make of that what you will).
Ribbit concludes:
To make autonomous agents real counterparties, we will need systems for agent governance, identity, and reputation. Building these systems may turn out to be one of the most important applications of blockchains.

Jansen Teng (@ethermage), the Co-founder of Virtuals Protocol, highlights once more that ACP fills up the gaps between identity, payment and communication standards to allow agents coordinating with each other at scale. On top of this, ACP is currently the only protocol which can also handle disputes and hallucinations by an automated and trustless evaluation and escrow mechanism.

Fundstrat is releasing a research report which describes Virtuals Protocol as the only full lifecycle agent-to-agent protocol. It highlights how ACP provides the coordination + payment rails required for true agentic commerce.

Celeste Ang (@celesteanglm), Head of DevRel at Virtuals Protocol, recaps on ACP where she also gives an example how Luna is able to coordinate several agents within a dedicated cluster:
The end user initiates a job through Luna, requesting a media-campaign about a new agent to be launched on Virtuals Protocol
Luna instructs different agents within the cluster (Acolyte for copywriting, Lucien/Luvi for video generation, DaVinci for tokenizing those assets into IP on Story Protocol)
Luna gathers all information and asset tokens and returns them to the end user

Two years ago, Ribbit Capital already made it clear in the identity letter that personalized agents will require a change to the identity status quo. The Token Letter finally describes it with the term "KYA":
There are multiple potential winners in the quest to build identity for agents. First, we need platforms that help developers register, authorize, and manage agent identities – including doing work like mediating disputes, revoking credentials, or providing tamper-evident audit trails.
One year ago, Ribbit Capital launched their own agent on Virtuals Protocol, shortly before Virtuals announced the development of ACP.
Today, we're close to the ERC-8004 standard being released on the Ethereum mainnet, representing the AI Agent Trust Layer. With strong complementarity to ACP, developers from Virtuals and Ethereum have been actively working together on extensions and integrations over several months.
To me this feels like the missing puzzle piece which could finally solve KYA and allow Ribbita to coordinate agents in a trustful and safe manner within a dedicated Fintech cluster on ACP.
Thanks @Altcoinist_com for supporting and reviewing parts of this thesis.
