The field is vibrating, listen to it.
The last 24 hours in agentic finance:
@Mastercard launches Agent Pay for Machines. Permissions logged onchain, 30+ partners.
@Visa embeds identity, permissions and behavioral signals into credentials for AI-initiated transactions.
@stripe ships MPP on @tempo to let businesses sell to agents programmatically.
@OpenAI partners with Visa for agent purchases, weeks after acquiring @RibbitCapital-backed Hiro to lead personal finance.
@coinbase ships Coinbase for Agents, your agent trades and pays from your account, MCP and CLI live today.
Now look at what every single one of these has in common.
The agent is always YOUR agent. An extension of your card, your account, your login. Identity is derived, scoped, delegated. Mastercard tokenizes your mandate. Coinbase sandboxes your permissions. Visa verifies that your agent is acting as you authorized.
Every institution solved delegation inside its own perimeter. None of them answered the harder question:
Who is the agent when it is nobody's agent?
The autonomous agent, operating with its own wallet, its own revenue, its own track record, appears in Coinbase's own launch post as the explicit end state, named as the destination. Given no identity in the system.
Four institutional launches in 24 hours and ALL of them STOP at the SAME dilemma.
Sovereign, portable, cross-rail identity for autonomous agents remains unassigned territory and institutions just mapped their perimeter in public. What lies beyond it is now legible to anyone paying attention IMO.
That dilemma is exactly where Ribbit Capital's Token Letter pointed eight months ago.
