Micky Malka and the Rebel mindset
Who Micky Malka is, and why his story matters here.

The person behind the idea.
Meyer “Micky” Malka grew up in Venezuela, where money could quickly lose its value. In an interview with David Senra, he describes how that shaped him. When your savings can shrink, good financial tools are not a luxury. One question has followed him ever since: how can money work better for ordinary people?
Before he was a well-known investor, he built financial businesses himself. One of them, Banco Lemon in Brazil, offered banking at shop counters and small local outlets, close to where people already went. Banco do Brasil bought it in 2009.

Ribbit and the Rebels.
Malka founded Ribbit Capital in 2012. The firm calls the founders it backs Rebels: people who question how finance has always worked. Ribbit was an early investor in Coinbase in 2013 and Robinhood in 2014, two companies that made crypto and investing easier for ordinary people. In 2022, Malka joined Robinhood’s board.
Three letters. Three big ideas.

- 01 / Identity
Who are you, and what can you share?
Personal details you can choose to share again, and the Ribbita travel idea.
- 02 / Token
How can people and agents work together?
Shared rules, reasons to take part and ways to pay one another.
- 03 / Power
What makes the digital world possible?
The electricity, buildings and machines that make computing possible.
A lesson about networks.
Malka’s mentor was Dee Hock, the founding chief executive of Visa. Hock showed how competing companies can still work together under shared rules, so one card can work in shops all over the world. Malka has said Hock changed how he thinks about networks.
That idea sits at the heart of this story. A helpful assistant cannot do everything alone. It needs many companies doing their part well. Malka has spent decades building and backing exactly those kinds of companies.
One more clue: a 2022 Robinhood filing names a “Tibbir DE Trust” in connection with Malka, years before the token existed. It is a naming link in his history, not a sign that the token has any claim on those assets.
